Yesterday, I received Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update notification by HTC on my Incredible S which was refreshing knowing that you could hardly find anything with Gingerbread except Nexus One and Nexus S (4G had it out of the box). But, it’s good to see HTC updating the current and future models.
Currently, all the Incredible S and Desire HD phones without any cellular network contract are being pushed to update their firmwares using Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) update.
HTC UK also updated their website:
“Update – HTC Desire HD Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update
Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.36.405.8. Update: Android 2.3 upgrade. Note:Please back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. Here is the screenshot of my HTC Incredible S which was very difficult to get as it can’t be rooted or can it be? I’ll blog about that later.
