Google Announces Chrome OS

Google has recently announced to release it’s own OS on their official blog. They said their basic focus will be on speed, simplicity and security. They intend to create an open-source light-weight operating system which targets the fun loving people who love to surf the web all day long. About the architecture and design Google says

Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel. For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform.

With the growing market for net-books which are too less robust to run Windows Vista, Chrome OS is definitely going to be one cool platform.

I was never excited by the news of Windows 7 coming but I will be the first one to download the leaked torrent for the Chrome OS :D

Update Facebook, Twitter & 40 Other Networks Via RSS Feed

It has become a need of a blogger to keep the fans of his blog updated via all the major social networks. The major ones being Twitter and Facebook. You can now easily update all of these using some free cool services.

Updating Twitter:

Twitter can be updated easily via a service called TwitterFeed. You just need to create an account, authorize it to your twitter id, provide it with your feed URL and yum it’s already feeding your twitter. Another cool thing about Twitterfeed is that it gives you real-time stats about your feed items too.

Updating Facebook Profiles, Pages and Other 40 Networks:

All of this can be done by using Ping.fm and TwitterFeed together. Ping.fm allows you to update statuses of 40 services at the same time. You only need to authorize all those networks to your Ping.fm account once and then you can easily update multiple networks via Ping.fm’s text field. The drawback to this service is that it only updates your statuses through text and not through RSS feed. This is where TwitterFeed comes to play. TwitterFeed, apart from feeding to Twitter also feeds to Ping.fm which then updates your statues on all those networks.

How to Proceed:

  1. Create your Ping.fm account for free here.
  2. You will be shown list of networks. Add the ones you like. I am adding Facebook Fan Pages to continue with the tutorial.
  3. Before Ping.fm can post to your Facebook fan page, you need to add the Ping.fm application to your Facebook account. Allow the access to application and provide it with the Ping.fm key.
  4. Now you need to add the app to fan page too to link it with the ping.fm account. To do so click here. Select add to pages from the menu. Once you click on that a window will show you the pages you own. Select the ones you want to link to the ping.fm
  5. After that you will need to grant some permissions which can be done here.
  6. Both the accounts are perfectly linked but your status still might not update if you haven’t allowed the application to post stories to your wall.  Edit application settings and make sure you have allowed “publish to streams” and “post stories to the wall”.
  7. You can test now if the status updates via ping.fm by trying to update it through ping.fm’s dashboard.
  8. If the status doesn’t update, please try troubleshoot the problem at ping.fm’s support.
  9. If the status updates manually, you are all ready to automate it via TwitterFeed.
  10. Create a TwitterFeed account or sign in.
  11. Create new feed.
  12. Select ping.fm in “Create feed to”.
  13. Provide your Ping.fm key.
  14. Provide it with the feed URL.
  15. Make sure to have same methods selected in both TwitterFeed and Ping.fm e.g both should be “Status updates” or both should be “Micro blogs” etc.
  16. Done. Have fun feeding all the social networks.

If you come across any problems, you can drop the comments here but I will highly recommend you to search about it their support.

The HTML, HEX, RGB, CMYK & HSV Screen Color Picker, Pixie

Bloggers and web-designers need to play with HTML color codes all the time. Pixie by Nattyware is one great portable application for this purpose which occupies 11 KB of  hard disk space, 160*80 pixels of screen space and needs no installation. With pixie you can pick up color codes in HEX, HTML, RGB, CMYK & HSV just by using the hot keys. Pixie also provides you with a magnifier. So, you may zoom any part of the screen and pick colors from there. The magnifier is extremely handy while picking up the font colors. When I am up to designing, pixie is a must need.

How to Download or Embed Facebook Videos in Internet Explorer and Other Browsers

Lots of people share useful videos with their friends and families at Facebook. Whenever I found something useful and felt like sharing it at my blog I always wished if there was a way to embed it till Firefox based plug in came to play called “Facebook Videos“.

The plug in lets you embed, convert and download all kind of Facebook videos through Firefox. However, I believe that more than 65 % of internet users do not use Firefox. So, I decided to look into the plug in and see what it does so we may devise a manual way to embed and download videos for all other users.

Let’s take some Facebook video link in consideration

http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=224444830166&oid=35981458389

Now if you try to look at the link you will see a video ID separated by some other ID through ampersand sign (&)

http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=224444830166&oid=35981458389

This video ID separates each video of the Facebook from another. All you have to do is put this ID after the following link:

http://www.facebook.com/v/224444830166/

Now, you can simply embed this link from your WordPress post panel like you embed Youtube videos.

If you need to know the complete embedding code which you may directly paste into the HTML then that is given below:

<object classid=”clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000″ width=”425″ height=”375″ codebase=”http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0“><param name=”src” value=”http://www.facebook.com/v/224444830166/” /><embed type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” width=”425″ height=”375″ src=”http://www.facebook.com/v/224444830166/“></embed></object>

Just replace the red code with the link you will be creating. Now, that was simple wasn’t it?

Update: Download Facebook videos in any browswer through IDM

How to Use Adsense on Adsense Blocked/Blacklisted Sites

Everyone does mistakes but not everyone forgives them and Google falls in the less forgiving ones category. If you have got your website blocked or blacklisted for adsense by not complying with any of the adsense policies Google is not going to let you re-participate in their program with that specific site. No matter how much re-consideration requests you send, Google forgives very seldom. If you feel bad for your mistake and want to play fair onwards then the tip below is definitely for you.

To make your site re-participate in the adsense the best choice for you is to buy a new domain and put 301 redirect from the old domain. For example if you had www.some-domain.com, buy www.some-domain.net and create a dynamic redirect which redirects every page to the same page on the new domain.

The new domain will not be blacklisted as far as you comply with their policies. All the pages from your new domain will indexed as it is and you will not lose any traffic. Google recommends 301 redirect when you have to move your site permanently so the move will be search engine friendly.

Htaccess Redirect:

To completely shift all pages of your site to new domain, simply

  1. Download htaccess file from the root of your server.
  2. edit the file with notepad, skip the existing code and add this at the end, where domain.com is the new domain name.
  3. redirectMatch 301 ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com
    redirectMatch permanent ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com
  4. Upload the htaccess file to replace with the previous one and you are done.
