Sources has disclosed TweetDeck has been acquired by Twitter itself for a whooping $40 million – $50 million including both cash and Twitter stock. Previously, TechCrunch speculated about a possible acquisition by Twitter after earlier reports of acquisition by UberMedia and many others.

The deal has been signed but it is yet to be announced. There is no official statement from Twitter but Twitter’s Global PR rep tweeted:

TweetDeck is the most popular Twitter desktop and mobile application with 19% market share following Twitter.com with 45% shares. It also integrates various other social networks. Twitter usually acquires third party apps and web-based interfaces.
