For those of you living on the moon for the past week or so, you would be glad to know that CM 10.1 is now available for Nexus S I9020 with the release candidate becoming available with loads of bug fixes and stability compared to the prior version. There are many new features that are still under development of course but they will definitely delight you. Follow the guide below in order to get you to the CM 10.1 RC2 for your Nexus S. Please understand that Rewritetech will not be responsible for any damages caused to your device. Please proceed at your own risk and follow the guide after the break.

Install Nexus S I9020 Android 4.2.2 CM10.1 RC2 Jelly Bean Custom Firmware

Before you begin you will need to make a backup of your personal data including your messages (if you want) and contacts etc. Make a backup of everything you think will be hard to set up later. You also need to enable the USB debugging before you proceed with flashing and all you need to do for that is to go to settings, hit applications, development and USB debugging. Please make sure that you have at least 50% percent battery because your mobile is not supposed to turn off during flashing or otherwise you risk bricking it.

Step 1: Download CM10.1 RC2 Android 4.2.2 ROM here and Google Apps zip here on to your computer

Step 2: connect your device to the computer using the USB cable provided and copy the downloaded files in the root folder (no folder at all)

Step 3: disconnect your device and turn it off. Wait at least ten seconds and restart the device in Bootlader Mode as so; press and hold the volume up key, volume down key and power button all at once.

Step 4: select recovery in bootloader mode

Step 5: once there, please wipe data, wipe cache partition, and factor reset the phone

Step 6: while in CWM recovery please enter advanced and select wipe dalvik cache

Step 7: go back to the main screen and select install zip from SD card after which select ‘choose zip from SD card’. Navigate with the help of volume keys and select the zip file that you just downloaded. Once that is installed, repeat STEP 7 for Google Apps file.

Step 8: once you are all done, please head back to the main screen and reboot the device.

The first boot after the installation will take around 4 to 5 minutes after which you would successfully have updated your phone.
